Why Are You Troubled About This Life When You Already Have an Invitation to A Royal Inheritance?

Reflection:

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? John 14:2

Jesus comforts the disciples before he is crucified to give them hope during a time of despair, he reminds them of their faith in him and the Father; that they are one (John 14:10). He also gave them the promise that a place was prepared for them to encourage them to continue to walk righteously and spread the word of Christ, telling them that they would meet again (John 14:1-4).

Understanding Our Role In This Life

We are busy in this life trying to obtain our ideal life style. We work endlessly to have the dream job, the dream home, the dream car, even the dream bank account. Can you recall charting out goals for the next 1 to 5 years or creating vision boards at the top of the year to set your intentions. You see, the flesh desires to accumulate these things and we are conditioned by society to chase after these futile images of what it means to be successful. We find ourselves in despair when we cannot accomplish what we set out to do and we even feel deeply sadden when our path is interrupted. Can you recall a time when you felt like you went through set back after set back? No matter how hard you worked towards that goal there were things that just did not happen in the time frame you prepared? Well I have a question for you.

Why are you troubled about the riches of this life when you already have an invitation to a royal inheritance?

How To Assess My Intentions

Now—I don’t deny that you should not have goals in this life. I’d even argue that you should use your talents and gifts that the Lord bestowed inside of you (Colossians 3:23-24; Romans 12:6-8) for his glory. Whatever you are gifted to do, make sure that you do so in a way that gives God the glory instead of sewing into the tangibles of this life. This is because focusing only on what you wish to gain in this world will not serve you when the time comes to pass on. It is okay to desire nice things and even work hard for those things but you cannot become solely motivated on earthly treasures. How does your gift bring glory to God? Think of these questions to help you reflect on this thought a bit more:

  • Who are you touching?

  • Who are you serving?

  • When expressing thankfulness, what are you thankful for?

  • When setting goals, what is the intended outcome once you reach the goal?

If you simply want a new job to afford a lifestyle, "who" could you help? If you want a platform to be “known” to be “heard” what do you want to be known for and what do you want to say? “Why” do you want to say it? When given the chance to serve, "why" do you want to serve, "who" are you serving? These are the questions we need to ask to see if our focus is earthly or heavenly. Why does this matter? It matters because you have been invited to receive an inheritance by following what you have been asked to do (1 John 2:15-17). Are you living a life according to this world OR the Kingdom of God? Another point to make, when things are not going as planned remember that---it may be the Lord’s plan for it to take the time it takes. You are building up who God intends for you to be and that means you have to endure the process and remain in alignment with HIS will and not your own. This is a hard lesson but if we are willing to submit to this understanding, we are very much so blessed. When this lesson becomes a heavy weight to bear, pray for wisdom and study the word for the Lord's wisdom. We are daughters of a King! We are the prophetic inheritors of the Kingdom (Ephesians 2). There is nothing he can not do for you!

Prayer Heavenly Father thank you for loving me so much that you saved me, you created a place for me with many mansions that I may rest with you. Father while I embrace my purpose in this life help me to fulfill your will. Help me to be a blessing to others that the light of Christ may shine through me in all that I say and do. When I face troubling moments, surround me with your unfailing love, you word, like-minded children of Christ that I may be uplifted and restored. Help me Oh Lord to receive my inheritance by honoring you with my gifts and talents for your glory. Father keep my eyes focused on you and not the treasures of this world, for I know that I am only passing through and I do not desire to worship anything other than you. Help me to always seek your wisdom first so that my choices will reflect the life you desire for me to live. ~ Amen
