Like a Flower, God is Watering You

We understand a seed is planted in darkness, develops roots, receives nourishment from its soil, sunlight, and water. That process we have come to learn. Why is it that we understand the life cycle of plants but seemingly, not of spiritual nourishment? This blog began on a similar topic, Planted, Not Defeated, Destroyed, or Destitute (read it if you haven’t). In that blog it is discussed how we must endure tough seasons of our lives to prepare for what God wants to produce in and through us. In this part II we will discuss what that nourishment looks like. Specifically, the watering of the soul.

Reflection

In Isaiah 58:11, it says “The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”

A watered garden means the nourishing of your spirit with the word of God. Additionally, the Lord warns us not to worry about the yoke of oppression or speak ill of others and point blame when we experience trying times. He cautions us to simply help others that are oppressed and by doing so we will receive guidance from the Lord. He will restore us where we are dry and weakened. The Lord will nourish us in such a way that it will be as though we never run dry of the strength of him.

Understanding The Purpose

This poured life into my spirit reading it because sometimes I carry the weight of my troubles. But I read this in Isaiah and I’m reminded that focusing on the yoke (the heaviness of the situation) instead of Christ redeeming word, weakens me. While I am tasked as a child of God to love and help my neighbor, how can I do that if I’m focused on issues around me and not the solution. The Savior offered himself on the cross for the world. I am humbled by remembering his divine plan, the world is an imperfect place, I am not perfect but through Christ we are made whole. Whenever we stray away God offers redemption. He offers to nourish us and restore us for his will to be done.

Being Watered

What it means to be watered is to be replenished with the scripture when you feel dry and weakened. It is nourishment, not to sit idly and soak up the supply of what is given. Instead we are nourished by the Father to help produce good fruit. In simple terms, when you’re going through troubles and you feel you have suffered a lot or carry so much you no longer have the desire to study the word of Christ, God waters you. You may even endure things that push you closer to him and his word. He does so to keep you strong in the faith so that you will not become weary or hopeless. He wants you to speak life and the word of Christ into others. He wants you to show them goodness through love, help, and support (feeding our neighbors with Christ etc.) we should show them the light of Christ. We show that by giving ourselves over to Christ, we will be restored.

Call to Action

So my dear friend and sister, stop carrying a heavy burden of yoke, take up the yoke of Christ, which is light and do away with blame in this season. Allow the Lord to water and restore you. Then pay it forward and help someone who really needs the love of Christ right now. Like we are watered, who can we uplift instead of carrying a woe is me attitude, complain or place blame. Where can we be of service with the word of God? After the quench of our thirst has been satisfied and we rejoice, that doesn’t mean we keep to ourselves. That means we should share our testimony with how God delivered us and if he did it for me, I promise he’ll do it for you! Don’t keep the Lords redeeming power to yourself. Pour into someone else because you never know whose life just might be saved.

Prayer Heavenly Father, forgive me for moments where my heart and words utter hopeless statements. When I feel depleted draw me near that I may saturate myself in your word, spend time with you intimately in prayer. Help me focus less on the oppression and more on the solution, you as Christ my savior. Father refill and refuel me so that I will go out into the world doing your good works sharing my testimony, sharing the redeeming power of your word. May you receive all the glory forever. ~ Amen
